Straining your canaryseed

It's up to you.
Some people prefer a smoother drink, while others are fine with the natural texture of canaryseed milk drink. You can skim the hulls from the top of the glass, or drink the whole thing down.

Here's how to prepare one to two servings of canaryseed milk, also called leche alpiste:

Soak the seeds overnight

Measure 5-10 tablespoons of Pureza brand Silica Fiber Freeā„¢ canaryseed into a container with 8-12 ounces of water. Soak the seeds overnight in the refrigerator. You may soak the seeds for longer, provided you change the soaking water once a day.

Strain and rinse the soaked seeds

After soaking the seeds for at least 8-12 hours, strain or pour off the soaking water and rinse the canaryseed thoroughly in fresh water until the rinse water is clear.

Puree the seeds in the blender

Put the soaked seeds in the blender with 12-24 oz of fresh water, milk or unsweetened juice and any other ingredients that fit your diet that you might enjoy in a blended drink. Blend for 3-4 minutes.

Serving and storing your canaryseed drink

You may prepare enough canaryseed milk for two days and keep it in the refrigerator. Because the canaryseed can settle to the bottom of the container, make sure to re-blend or stir it briskly before pouring a serving.
